SINCE the murder of restaurant proprietor Zhenjz Su at his home last Friday, another suspect was arrested yesterday for questioning while two others who were picked up last week were released.Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum yesterday confirmed that the suspect in custody was observed lurking around the Jade Stone Restaurant the night the murder took place.
Meanwhile, a $2M reward is being offered for information which may lead to the arrest of person (s) responsible for the brutal crime.
The police yesterday revealed that following the homicide two suspects were arrested and held for questioning but after the 72-hours holding period expired they were released because there was no tangible evidence to detain them further.
The men were picked up since last week on separate occasions as police pursued other leads hoping to make a breakthrough soon in the murder probe.
The well-known city restauranteur, Zhenjz Su, operated Jade Stone Chinese Restaurant, popularly known as ‘Black Chiney Restaurant’, and his home which also houses his business place was invaded by a group of armed bandits who robbed and murdered him.
The arrests were made after sleuths reviewed footage from surveillance cameras which may have captured the incident.
Su was brutally hacked to death while his wife, Fei Su, 32, was severely beaten and hospitalised.
She was mostly beaten in the face and has lost some teeth. The attack took place in the presence of their two children, who were unharmed during the ordeal.
Su’s home with the restaurant on the lower flat on Mandela Avenue, Ruimveldt was invaded at about 03:00 hrs on August 7, 2015 by several robbers who began beating his sleeping wife before taking him to the kitchen where he was also beaten, chopped, bound, gagged and left to die. The armed bandits took away an undisclosed amount of cash.
After the robbers left Fei Su went in search of her husband, whom she found lifeless on the kitchen floor with chop wounds to his head. His feet were tied and his mouth gagged.
From all accounts the bandits spent a while inside the premises assaulting the couple separately before they escaped with the loot.
The couple had been operating the business for some time now and it had become a popular ‘liming’ spot for many. (Michel Outridge)
