NOTABLE DATES

WAYNE Harris had nine fights in Canada but never claimed a victory there. One defeat occurred on July 9, 2002 at the Pierre Charbonneau Centre in Montreal. Harris clashed with local Bryon Mackie and lost the eight-rounder by unanimous decision. He had four more bouts in the North American country with the only incentive being a draw against Martin Desjardins in February 2006. The fight was the last in the 22-year-old career of Harris who started out with a TKO victory over Rockford Abrams in December 1984.
The gangly fighter came from a family of boxers. His younger brother Vivian remains the youngest male Guyanese to have won a world title.
The elder Harris won World Boxing Council (WBC) FECARBOX middleweight title on December 15, 1990 with a points decision victory over Trinidadian Anthony Brown.
Three years later he challenged WBA middleweight champion Reggie Johnson. Harris was not at his best and turned in a lacklustre performance to lose by unanimous decision. He went on a spiral decline soon after and had only one victory in his next 17 fights.
