REMANDED prisoner,  Devanand  Albert, called ‘Brother’, died of a heart attack, according to an autopsy conducted by Dr Vivikanand Brijmohan at the New Amsterdam hospital on Monday.

Albert, who  was scheduled to face a jury trial for his wife’s death, was pronounced dead after he was found motionless in his cell at the New Amsterdam Prison on March 8.

Prison  officials said the fifty-five-year- old man had been diagnosed with a heart condition following his admission to the penal institution on March 10, 2014.

Following the woman’s death at her residence, located  at Bhanjara Sawmill Dam, Grant  1803  Crabwood Creek, Albert fled  the country  to neighbouring Suriname, where he remained a fugitive until his arrest on March 10,2014.
