PRESIDENT Donald Ramotar yesterday endorsed the benefits of healthy lifestyle choices, and credited this as the reason for his weight loss over the past few months.
“I have just decided to cut back on quantities of foods, eating smaller quantities more regularly and cut out fatty foods as far as possible…I have also had to put aside my sweet tooth,” he said in response to a question that was on a lighter note at his news conference held at State House on Main Street, Georgetown.
Mr. Ramotar added that he is also monitoring his protein intake, and couples his new diet with a workout regime. “I continue to work out and get help from the gym,” he said.
He said the weight loss is also helping him cope with an old knee injury. “I had an old injury on the right knee and it was acting up a little bit more than usual, so I thought that also losing the weight will help that a great deal,” he said.
Now 63-years-old, the Head of State noted that his weight loss is not based on doctor’s orders, but is the result of a conscious decision to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The Ministry of Health continues to advance its campaign to encourage persons to develop a healthier lifestyle, and to prevent and combat non-communicable diseases.
