DEPUTY Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steve Ninvalle, said his ministry is very pleased with the ongoing works on Guyana’s first-ever synthetic track that is under construction at Leonora, West Coast Demerara.
The four-hundred-metre track is scheduled to be completed by mid next month. However, the stands, club house and other facilities are still to be completed.
A visit to the venue yesterday revealed that the north eastern stand is 90 percent completed while the south eastern stand is about 70 percent.
The deadline for the completion of the north eastern stand was May 31 but this date has been shifted to the second weekend of June.
According to BK International’s engineer Lloyd Stanton, the north eastern stand will be completed by mid next month.
Stanton explained that the stand which is 90 percent complete will accommodate 2 300 patrons and below the stand, there will be changing rooms, bathrooms and other facilities, including lockers for athletes and officials.
Ninvalle said he is very pleased with the works that have been completed so far and it is his intention to give to the general Guyana populace, something that is of quality.
Yesterday, BK International workers were feverishly working to complete the north eastern stand.
The south western stand which is 70 percent complete will also have below, changing rooms, lockers, bath and toilets as well as storage facilities.
The track has been laid with its final surface and is to be marked by the German company contracted to do it in another three weeks’ time, providing good weather prevails.
This, Ninvalle said, would take three days once we get good weather. He disclosed that there were a lot of hiccups.
