THIRTY-one-year-old Egland Stephens dealt his common law wife several slaps after accusing her of having an affair with his friend.The incident occurred at the couple’s Lad Lane, New Amsterdam, Berbice home and, after being assaulted, the woman, Durmattie Barrat was ordered to walk about 300 metres to the Mayor and Town Council Housing Scheme, where the defendant, allegedly, pulled out a shine gun and threatened to shoot her.
However, instead of shooting the woman, he ordered the mother of his one-year-old child to lie on a vacant plot of land, before walking away.
New Amsterdam Magistrate, Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, heard the narrative and ordered that Stephens post a total of $55,000 bail on charges of assault causing actual bodily harm and threatening language.
After it was related that the virtual complainant has since removed from the home, the cases were fixed for July 31.
