CLYDE Forde, 23, a labourer of Lot 83 Adelaide Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm, was refused bail by Magistrate Ann McLennan on Thursday. He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on Friday, March 14 in Fifth Street, Alberttown, in the city, too, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted the harm on Revelana Smith.
Police Corporal Dinero Jones, prosecuting, successfully objected to pre-trial liberty for the defendant, stating that the virtual complainant is the defendant’s child mother for six years and, if granted freedom, he may interfere with her as he is in the habit of assaulting her.
The prosecutor said, the day of the alleged offence, Forde was forcing Smith to have sexual intercourse with him and after she declined, he took a hot iron and burnt her.
The prosecutor added that the couple had a misunderstanding and Forde used a .32 silver revolver with which he dealt the woman some lashes, apart from cuffs and kicks about her body.
The prosecutor said the gun has not been found and the investigations are still ongoing.
But Smith told the court she does not wish to proceed with the case against Forde since he is the father of her child.
On hearing this, the obviously surprised Magistrate McLennan declared: “Oh yes? He burnt and hit you and you don’t want to go ahead with the matter?
“You need to talk to the clerk about a protection order,” she advised Smith.
Forde was remanded to prison until April 8 and the case was transferred to Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
