THE St. Lucian Government has lifted the quarantine from the cargo vessel, m.v. Lady Zai on which one Guyanese sailor died and another took ill. While the name of the deceased and ailing victims have not been disclosed, reports suggest that the seaman succumbed to bronchial pneumonia.
According to reports from the Maritime Administration of Guyana (MARAD), the sick sailor has been discharged from the St. Lucia hospital to which he was admitted and representatives of that agency are constantly in touch with local health officials.
Meanwhile, MARAD has also indicated that their affiliates on the island and the ship’s owners are in contact about the welfare of eight other Guyanese still aboard the craft.
The St. Vincent and the Grenadines-registered carrier is said to have left Guyana last March 9, for St. Lucia before the death and illness occurred on board.
