REGIONAL 4-DAY…Permaul’s six for 42 sets up exciting final day at Providence Stadium

-W/Islands lead by 190runs
HAVING conceded a first innings lead of 94 to the Windward Islands, host Guyana wrestled back control of their West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) third round Regional four- day encounter at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence at the end of the third day yesterday, thanks to left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul.Replying to the visitors 307, Guyana were bowled out for 213 within the first hour of play after lunch, as rain permitted only three overs to be bowled for the morning session, but they rebounded to restrict the Windwards to 96 for 8 despite an unbeaten 40 from Romel Currency, with Permaul snaring 6 for 42 and Narsingh Deonarine 2 for 28.
Scores to date: Windward Islands 307 and 96 for 8; Guyana 213
Rain delayed the start of play for 40 minutes with Guyana set to resume on 187 for 7, with Anthony Bramble and Devendra Bishoo on 29 and 22 respectively and both batsmen got boundaries off Liam Sebastien and Kenroy Peters before rain interrupted play for the second time at 1053hrs, with Guyana 198 for 7 off 81.3 overs, with Bramble on 33 and Bishoo 28.
When play got underway at 1250hrs following a 77 minutes delay, Guyana lost Bishoo caught by Lindon James at the wicket off the first delivery from Peters after hitting five fours and batting for 75 minutes in which he faced 68 balls for his 28.
He added 62 for the eighth wicket with Bramble who watched as Permaul got back to back boundaries off Peters, raising Guyana’s 200 with the first from 83.1overs and 229minutes of batting.
Peters wrapped up the innings, when he bowled Bramble for 35 (75b, 99m, 5×4) and removed Permaul lbw for 12 (3×4), to end with 4 for 42 in support to Sebastien’s 2 for 75, leaving Keon Joseph unbeaten on 1.

In their second innings, the Windward Islands quickly lost Devon Smith (00), Tyrone Theophile (00), Keddy Lesporis (06) and first innings centurion Sunil Ambris (06) to the combination of Permaul and Narsingh Deonarine, to be 23 for 4.

Sebastien (06) and James (04) followed soon as Permaul continued to rip through the visitor’s batting, who reached 62 for 6 off 28 overs at tea, with Romel Currency on 22 and Alston Bobb 12.

After tea, Permaul removed Bobb (16, 3×4) who was caught at silly point by Deonarine to claim his 10th five wicket haul at this level and Peters (06), before Currency who has so far faced 98 deliveries and struck three fours in his unbeaten innings and Delorn Johnson (01*) accepted the offer for bad light from the umpires at 1730hrs, with their team leading by 190 runs.
