SIXTY-THREE year old Balram Ramkhalawan, who allegedly dangled his penis before his elderly mother, was spared another jail term after his octogenarian mother told the court she would not offer evidence against him in court.“I am sorry for him. Two years ago he tripped (acted as though he had an unsound mind),” Regina Ramkhalawan told Albion Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh on Tuesday.
“I had taken him to Dr Mayda (a psychiatrist), but he refused to take his medications at times.”
On December 12 Ramkhalawan returned home in a drunken stupor, and was rebuked by his aging mother.
He became annoyed, and an argument ensued between the duo, resulting in him dragging her by her long braids out of the hammock while dangling his penis before her face.
This act by the woman’s offspring caused her much alarm and distress, and she reported the matter at the Albion Police Station. Consequently, the man was arrested and placed before the Albion Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded guilty to the assault charge, but denied the charge of exposing his genitals.
On a previous court hearing, the elderly woman had stated that her son was in the habit of beating her whenever he was under the influence of alcohol, and he had been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
