Teen charged for possessing narcotics granted bail

EIGHTEEN-year-old Jairam Singh, who allegedly had in his possession four grammes of cannibas sativa at a pig farm at Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice, denied the charge before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Albion Court, and was granted $20,000 bail after informing the court that six policemen had hit his mother and had barged into his home in an attempt to get at him.Singh was advised to make a formal complainant to the Police Complainants Authority.

In regard to Singh’s case, Police Sergeant Phillip Sherrif, prosecuting, said Singh, alias Johnny, had been seen acting in a suspicious manner at the pig farm, and police consequently arrested him. Following a search of his person, a transparent Ziplock plastic bag wrapped in an aluminum foil was removed from his left side pants pocket.
The case has been transferred to the Whim Magistrate’s Court for hearing on April 7.
