Man shot in Church Street robbery listed as critical

–warded at private city hospital

IN a daring daylight robbery, a man was yesterday shot and his wife robbed of a bag containing $150,000 and valuable documents.Sunil Ramesh, 39, was shot in the chest and shoulder as he was about to enter a bus on Church Street, across the road from Assuria Insurance Company. In the process his wife Anjanie Ramesh, 36, was relieved of her bag containing the cash and documents.
An eyewitness recalled that the robbery happened so fast it greatly shocked the woman who struggled to hold her shot husband up, even as he bled profusely from the chest. “I was standing across there, and just heard about three gunshots. When I look ah see the woman struggling to hold up the shot man, but he was bleeding really bad from his chest,” one man at the scene said.
Ramesh was rushed to a private hospital in the city where his condition was said to be critical.
The incident happened around 12:30hrs when, according to passersby, two men rode up on a motorcycle and launched their attack on the couple. The assailants then escaped on their motorcycle. Police are investigating.
