NORTH West Secondary School on Friday last held its annual graduation exercise for the Grade 11 students who recently wrote the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams.The student adjudged the Best Overall Student of Region 1 was Reshma Armogan with 4 Grade 1s, 4 Grades 2s and 3 Grade 3s. The Best Visual Arts prize was awarded to Julia Latchmenarine.
In delivering the Headmaster’s Report, Headmaster of North West Secondary School, Mr. Malcolm Marcus, congratulated the students and urged them to continue to be successful as they aim for greater achievements.
“To our graduating students, I wish to congratulate all of you on your various successes and wish you the very best in all your future endeavours. Go into the world of work and make us proud. Advance your qualifications at higher institutions of learning. In all you do, ensure that you use your discretion and remember to consider the feelings of others and respect them,” Mr. Marcus stated.
He also thanked his teaching and administrative staff for all the hard work they put in to make the school successful even in the midst of many challenges.
Delivering the feature address was the Coordinator of School Boards, Ms. Melcita Bovell, who began by celebrating the achievements of the students who were graduating by referring to the stellar partnership in education made possible by the teachers, parents, students and community members of North West Secondary School working together to produce the proud graduates of the school.
Ms. Bovell went on to highlight for the gathering, the determined commitment of the government to remain steadfast in investing strategically in education.
She said: “Today the Government of Guyana spends $28B on education in an effort to further strengthen the sector, so as to considerably enhance the quality of our human capital and to assist in our overall productivity as a nation.”
She pointed out that: “Secondary education is on the verge of being that extremely high successful story. Guyana is soon to embark on achieving universal secondary education …
“The Government of Guyana knows the importance of skills development and its ability to drive national development. Therefore, education will remain one of the main areas of focus in which the government will continue to invest. A skilled workforce is necessary to stimulate private sector growth that will bring new jobs and ultimately new prosperity to the people of Guyana, she added.”
