Wife told court husband was not joking around when he threatened her with a stick

A MAN who allegedly brandished a stick (from a ‘monkey apple tree branch’) while confronting his common law wife was on Wednesday released on bail when he appeared before Magistrate Shundell Lovell at the Cove and John Court.

Particulars of the alleged offences stated that Asraf Alli, on Friday 18th October, at Enmore North, East Coast of Demerara, made use of abusive language towards Nindranie Hopper. On that same day, it was alledged that he had also made use of threatening behaviour towards Bonnie Tattoon.
However, the virtual complainant told the court that the defendant habitually accuses her of extra-marital relationships and that on the day in question, she was afraid for her life.
But Alli interjected and told the court that it is his wife, who accuses him of having an extra-martial relationship, and on the day in question, he was returning from work and upon arrival at their home, his wife had her things packed in suitcases and that it was her who picked up the stick and assailed him.
The magistrate then ordered the defendant to pay a fine of $15,000 or face six months imprisonment.
