CHIEF Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry attended the High Court on Wednesday morning where she read the deposition of Kenrick Charles who had deposed before her at the preliminary inquiry into the murder of Brendon Charles.
Because Kenrick Charles, an eyewitness at the jury trial being heard before Justice James Bovell-Drakes could not be located by the police, the prosecution had under Section 95 applied to the court for permission to have Charles’ deposition put in evidence in his absence.
The permission was granted. The magistrate’s clerk began reading but later complained that there were certain words which he did not understand.
As a consequence arrangements were made for the chief magistrate to come to court and read her own handwriting.
And she did so graciously.
