Taking the first runner-up spot was Alicia Bess, who incidentally is the first runner-up in the 2013 Miss Jamzone International Pageant. In the second runner-up position was the captivating Ayana Whitehead, while Carlea Cindy Chappel copped the third runner-up position.

While the new queen also won the prize for Best Smile, Chappel took home the prize for Miss Body Beautiful, with Whitehead being adjudged the Most Congenial Delegate in the pageant.
The event erupted sometime around 21: 00 hrs with a riveting dance performance by the award winning Classique Dance Company and the ladies were well received for their efforts.

Then the eight delegates took to the stage to display enticing swimsuits in the tropical shades of the Caribbean.
Delegate number one, Carlea Cindy Chappel, was superb and strutted her stuff well, displaying a body that was well-toned and sculpted. No wonder she won the Miss Body Beautiful title.
Kenwah Cho Quan Yi was not bad at all and worked her swimsuit well as the excitement danced like fireflies in her eyes and sweet dimples.
Tiffanie Nieuenkirk was full of fire and confidence as she worked her swimsuit that gave great credit to her luscious curves. Shyon Hoppie was all smiles as she used her strong points of being peppy and cool, to evoke applause from the audience.
Ayana Whitehead was a sensual siren, working her apparel in such a provocative manner that the crowd could not help but show their approval.
Carla Brown was good to look at, but many felt she was just too cold for the swimsuit segment.

Then Katherina came to stage, like a Persian deity, her eyes dancing with fiery provocation. Using her long, sultry legs, dashing smile and sensuality to her advantage, she soon had the entire audience whopping in delight. She was an appealing blur of sophistication and erotic allure as she pivoted, sashayed and worked the runway like no other woman could.
The final delegate, Alicia Bess was naturally sexy and infused an exciting mixture of ‘provocative bliss’ to sell herself in the swimsuit segment. She was well applauded for her efforts.

And then it was time for the ‘soulful sister’, Jamaica’s superstar ‘Alaine’ to entertain and she did so with a certain Caribbean spice that worked well with the audience. Using her experience and natural ‘crowd manipulation’ skills, she had both men and women rocking and singing along to tunes like ‘Take me High’, ‘No Ordinary Love’, ‘Sacrifice’, and ‘At Last’, with she sang with much fervour to Mingles Band owner, Michael Fung who was blushing with masculine pleasure at stage front.
She left the stage to resounding applause and made way for the eight ladies as they battled in the evening gown segment. This segment brought out the best in each delegate and many of them used this moment to shine for the judges.

Delegate number one, Carlea Cindy Chappel, was an emerald princess in a lush, green gown with a glorious, billowing, ruffled skirt that accentuated her figure. The ensemble gave daring exposure to her back and shoulders and gave ample view of her cleavage.
Kenwah Cho Quan Yi was a tropical dream girl in a husky peach body-hugging gown with gold highlights that blended marvellously with her honey toned skin. The sleeveless apparel also allowed for the entire back to be exposed, and with twinkling smiles and stately steps she sold the piece magnificently.
Tiffanie Neeuenkirk’s gown was very attractive; it was a figure-clinging pale yellow piece with gold highlights that did wonders for her curvy figure.
Shyone Hoppie was very captivating, with eyes flashing, exposing pearly, white teeth as she showered the audience with dazzling smiles. However she should certainly have a talk with her seamstress since her white and silver gown was ill fitting and lacked a proper finish.
Ayana White by far sported the best gown for the night and this was affirmed by the eruption of the audience the moment she appeared on stage.
The magical black creation carried a ‘mesh effect’ in strategic areas exposing just enough for the eyes to see, but dangling dangerously to the point of being scandalous. The body-hugging gown covered just the right places and was accentuated with billowing ‘yester-year sleeves’. It was the spectacular flowing trail of glorious black fabric that evoked murmurs of ‘amazing’ and ‘fantastic’ from the receptive audience.
Carla Brown’s very suggestive gown was a masterpiece, but she should have certainly added a little fire to her performance.
Then the queen of the night, Katherina Roshana, sailed in clad in a deep blue, gorgeous gown that carried a daring slit to the left. Working her magic, she stormed the stage with the finesse more associated with international runway divas, as the crowd yelled their approval. She wore silver accessories to accentuate the highlights in the soft fabric, and tossing her head like a fiery Caribbean damsel, she sealed the deal in this segment.
Alicia Bess chose a scarlet red sleeveless gown that hugged her body tightly. And she was indeed a very smart girl as the piece showcased her curvaceous Berbician figure which was moulded nicely in this dress that carried a rather positively extravagant fish tail bottom.
After an energetic performance by Guyana soca sensation Jumo ‘Rubber Waist’ Primo the MC, Caroline Walcott of the University of Guyana, announced the top four delegates which included  Katherina Roshana, Alicia Bess, Ayana Whitehead, and Carlea Cindy Chappel.
In the final question segment the questions varied and so were the answers as each girl tried to outdo the other with a fusion of wits, intelligence and experience. May we warn however, that this final question was not the only criteria used to determine the eventual queen.
Marks from some of the other legs of the competition would have been added to the points secured for the night according to the MC.
It was no surprise when the smiling Katherina was declared Miss Guyana Universe 2013 and sections of the audience  hooted in agreement. She was crowned by Miss Guyana Universe 2012, Ruqayyah Boyer, who has just returned from competing at the Miss World Pageant in Bali, Indonesia.
Rk’s Institute of Motoring, in honouring the delegates, have provided each girl with a free driving course valued at $25,000.
The Guyana Chronicle congratulates the new Miss Guyana Universe and wishes her all the best of luck when she competes at the international level in Moscow later this year.
