A press release said the books were donated from the National Library in Georgetown and were presented to Headmistress of the school Ms. Gillian Foo, by librarian of the Lethem Library Mrs. Desiree Boston.
The release said, at the simple presentation ceremony, Boston indicated that the gesture is part of the activities planned by the library in observance of Education Month 2013, which is being observed from September 1 to October 5 under the theme ‘Transforming classrooms for the 21st Century.’
“A similar donation of Mathematics books is to be made during the course of the week to Moco-Moco Primary School which is also situated in the Central Rupununi, some 15 miles East of Lethem,” the release stated.
It added that, as an encouragement to the students, Boston reminded them that Mathematics is a core subject which they must know well, because it equips the individuals with mathematical skills needed for all facets of life.
She listed facets such as the conduct of business, planning community development, the provision of social services and the implementation of social infrastructure.
The statement said Boston also encouraged students to take good care of the books which were provided for them.
