Minister Rohee says he’s ‘fit’ : –for dual position he holds, but…

HOME Affairs Minister Clement Rohee says he is ‘fit’ for the portfolios of People’s Progressive Party (PPP) General Secretary and Minister of Home Affairs, since he is quite capable of discharging his responsibilities efficiently, given his health and vitality.

As he responded to questions posed by the media at a press conference he hosted last Thursday at the Home Affairs Ministry’s Brickdam Head office in Georgetown, Rohee was asked if he feels burdened by his position as PPP General Secretary and Home Affairs Minister, considering the crime situation. He responded as follows: “Feeling is a very subjective issue, and I have two jobs. I have so arranged my life and time to ensure that neither side is short-changed, and that the health and vitality of the General Secretary or Home Affairs Minister remains intact.”

Asked to respond to calls made by the political opposition for him to step down as Minister of Home Affairs, Rohee said that when polling took place at the last elections in 2006, from the day the results were announced, the Opposition wanted him to step down, and that call is still resonating up to today.

Rohee made clear that he has no problem in giving up his positions, quite apart from the opposition parties’ calls for him to so do.

On August 19, 2013, President Donald Ramotar announced his decision not to be re-elected as PPP General Secretary, a post he had held for many years, even after he was sworn in as President. Rohee was then elected to that position.
