Tamika Henry: An outstanding work in progress

ALTHOUGH esteemed academically, she is quite the down-to-earth woman who values simplicity and enjoys being outdoors mostly.

altMeet the pretty Tamika Henry, a woman of many talents, who manages her time well enough to still find opportunity to play “DJ”, as she so enjoys music of all kinds. She turns 26 years old next week, but is already quite a head turner in looks, with a dynamic personality to match.
Ms. Henry is a Forensic Analyst with a local law enforcement agency, and a typical day for her starts at 05:00 hours, when she prays, works out and cooks before going to work.
In the afternoons, at around 17:00 hours, she teaches CSEC classes part-time, and on some evenings she hosts the Lottery television game show at 20:00 hours. Some days will go even longer, if she has rehearsals with her theatre group, the Full Hundred Performing Arts ensemble, and homework/studying to complete.
That apart, Ms. Henry attends the House of Prayer Tucville Assembly of God Church, where she essentially grew up and is also a volunteer with the Youth Advisory Group of United Nations Food and Population Fund (UNFPA), which focuses on youth development.
This career-driven woman is currently pursuing the MSc degree in Forensic Science at the University of Florida. You might remember her as the top CSEC student in 2004 while she attended Queen’s College, and also for being a top GCE ‘A’ levels and CAPE student in 2006.
She later pursued a BSc degree at the University of Miami on a full scholarship.
“Academic achievement requires hard work – late nights studying, discipline in time management, and lots of faith. But in the end it is worth it. I also like to have fun with my journey, trying new things and even laughing at myself when I mess up,” she gushed.
Ms. Henry is in love with science, and believes that having a career she loves guarantees her independence as well as plays a crucial role in the vision she has for her life. While Forensics is her passion, she also likes Marketing, Graphics Art Designing, and Public Speaking.
She dabbles in modelling, and has even won the coveted Miss Guyana Universe title in 2010.
Today she regularly graces your television and radio in advertisements for Digicel Guyana, among other companies.
In her free time, on Sundays, Ms. Henry relaxes with her family, including two dogs.

“We’re definitely a food family, so some sort of big cooking and eating is always involved,” she joked.
She also loves hanging out with her significant other, whom she says is just as fun-loving and goal-oriented as she is.
To personally unwind, Ms. Henry likes driving and enjoying the fresh air outdoors, so she is often seen out and about.
Comfort foods such as dark chocolate, ‘a dutty chinee’, a pasta or wine are also high on her list of leisure priorities.
When asked “Who are you?” Tamika Henry admits difficulty in  finding one label for herself, because she believes in constant re-invention and evolving with life’s adventures.
“We should never stop learning and perfecting who we are,” she says. For this reason, she likes to call herself “a work in progress…” proud of where she is today, but very hopeful for the future.
