Comfort Sleep continues to shine like a diamond : –even while celebrating a decade of success

IF one were to discuss the functions and services of the Comfort Sleep entity, one’s discussion would detail the excellent products that entity produces, and the magnificent and positive manner in which the entity reaches out to society and those in need.

Comfort Sleep continues to shine remarkably over the years, and one must remember that the driving force behind the company’s success is its Managing Director, Dennis Charran, and its efficient staffers that make the company a force to be reckoned with on the commercial and production frontiers.

The company just recently celebrated a decade of success, but one must remember that this success story did not happen like magic, but was propelled by the driving forces behind Comfort Sleep’s existence, and amidst associated challenges.

Dennis Charran, heeding the productive and marketing drive within him some twenty years ago, began importing foam mattresses from a Trinidadian company. As a result, the company began operating out of Guyana, and Charran, of course, became one of its leading distributors. Sadly, the company hit rock bottom some time later, and closed operations.

But being the persistent and determined individual he is, Charran did not let this unfortunate development deter him from surging forward to greater success. So, in 2003, he launched his own company, dubbed ‘Comfort Sleep’. He bought the machine from the failed company, and though it was a small start for him, it was motivation enough for him to persevere.

As they enjoyed the festivities surrounding their one decade anniversary, Charran has indicated that he has every intention of continuing to move forward. He has even hinted that he is also focused on expanding as he ventures into the export market.

He is, of course, pleased by his success so far, but concedes there is still room for improvement and further development, to attain the heights he intends to reach as he progresses in the world of business.

Admitting that the Comfort Sleep spring line of products is not doing as well as had been expected, Charran intends to focus on implementing strategic marketing techniques to boost sales in that area.

Comfort Sleep has, however, been doing well, taking into consideration that it started with ‘humble operations’ and was producing only one brand of mattress. Today, according to Charran, the entity has two types of foam mattress and three different types of spring mattress.

Today the Charrans have greatly improved the business with new machinery, and their products are certainly top class and durable.

Come October, the entity will be launching its new memory foam, called ‘Comfortpedic’, at this year’s GuyExpo festivities. According to Charran, the company has just recently been able to tap into the Suriname market, and has already delivered its first batch of products.

Meanwhile, Charran is also targeting the Venezuela market, and research is being conducted to determine the feasibility of such a project.

In Guyana, Comfort Sleep supplies products to the Courts Guyana Inc., Guyana Stores, and several furniture stores around Guyana.

Comfort Sleep certainly has a far way to go, and another force behind its onward drive is Representative Amanda Munroe, who has been with the company for more years than she cares to remember. She said it was more than an inspiration to have been working with the company all these years. She said that, over time, she has had to put her strengths and talents on full throttle, waking up many times in the night to sketch as she attempted to come up with unique products that would attract maximum customer interest.

Comfort Sleep, located at 47, Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara, is also popular for its many outreach programmes to charitable organisations.

Today the company feeds more than five hundred children across Guyana three days per week, and also plays a lead function in funding the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, which cares for children with disabilities.
