Guyana Amazon Warriors set for CPLT20 semis today : … clash with Antigua Hawksbills in Antigua

TONIGHT the Guyana Amazon Warriors on eight points will do battle with Antigua Hawksbills at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua in a match which will determine the semi-final positions.

For the Amazon Warriors, Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga will replace Pakistan’s Mohammed Hafeez who leaves for International duties with his team on tour to Zimbabwe.

Malinga will add another dimension with his amazing accuracy and speed which makes him the most devastating exponent with the new while ball.

The Amazon Warriors must fancy their chances of coming out victorious but the openers will have to score faster during the powerplay, the period which allows the batting side the chance to seize the initiative and control the match.

In the other matches carded for today the T&T Red Steel will be seeking to maintain their winning ways but will find the St Lucia Zouks in positive mood, as the battle for top honours at Sabina Park in the first match of the double-header at the famous Jamaican venue while the home team Jamaica Tallawahs and leaders Barbados Tridents meet in the crucial second match which will decide the first set of semi-finalists.

Both matches will be played during the day while the Amazon Warriors will know what they have to do to clinch one of the other semi-final berths, as their match with the Hawksbills starts at 20:00hrs.

With their tense five-run victory over the Jamaica Tallawahs on Thursday at Sabina Park, the Guyana Amazon Warriors moved to eight points; the same as the Barbados Tridents who hold the lead of the six-team standings on a better net run rate; with +1.366 compared to -0.693. The Tallawahs drop to third spot and have six points from three victories.

St Lucia Zouks gained the advantage over home team Antigua Hawksbills via the Duckworth/Lewis System in the rain-affected encounter at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Thursday evening. But both teams and the Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel are all on four points.

The Hawksbills hold the fourth position with a marginal better net run-rate with -0.136 followed by Red Steel -1.198 and Zouks -1.206.
