The ‘planned celebration’ is to bring the wider Muslim community together as well as non-Muslims and provide an opportunity for all to reflect on the holy month of Ramadan.
Historically, the events of the IAC have been open to Guyanese of all ethnicities and the Eid Fest 2013 is expected to attract a large number of persons, many of whom will be adherents of Islam and from diverse backgrounds.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Lunar Calendar and is regarded as the most sacred of the year. At the end of Ramadan the festival of Eid-Ul-Fitr is celebrated.
According to an advisory from the IAC, the programme, which commences at 15:00 hrs, includes a rich cultural presentation, exhibition of Islamic artifacts, games, etc.
The highlight of this year’s celebrations is the presentation of awards to the two Top CSEC students from Anna Regina Multilateral School.
