HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon yesterday accused Mayor of Georgetown Hamilton Green of reverting to his “brutish” PNC behaviour with regard to his recent treatment of Town Clerk (acting) Carol Sooba.

altThe Mayor of the City of Georgetown and a team that includes his security denied Sooba access to her office by their physical presence and their threatening manner, on August 5 and 6.
“The revival of old Hamilton Green, the People’s National Congress 1970-1980 – brutish Prime Minister was noted by Cabinet,” Dr. Luncheon said yesterday at a post-Cabinet media briefing.
“Very few who witnessed his gun-toting intimidation striking defenceless Booker’s Stores workers, mostly women, would forget those scenes and those events,” he stated.alt
“Fast forward to today…Green, ensconced in the City Council, the den of unaccountable Opposition elements that destroyed the Garden City, and recall his attack, specifically, on women and town clerk,” Dr Luncheon said.
He said that, “regardless of political persuasion and ethnicity, we have clear indication of a return of this element of his atrocious public behaviours.”
Dr. Luncheon said that Cabinet finds totally unacceptable Green’s treatment of the acting Town Clerk and cautioned that, “He would soon learn that 2013 is not the hay-days of the PNC despotic rule in Guyana, and that even his age would not save him, from the clutches of natural justice.”
Dr. Luncheon explained that Green over the years, and even before the loss of power of the PNC, belonged to a category of profession that takes ‘liberty with power.’
“This is an attempt to return to those days…the adrenaline even at his age might be flowing that makes him feel that he could re-create the same type of situation, seized with the nostalgia perhaps, that he can summon up his minions and take to the streets and take to the homes, and intimidate …,” Dr. Luncheon said.
He advised that Government is not prepared to compromise as it relates to this issue and the Georgetown City Council’s concerns about the Town Clerk (acting). “There is no compromise that Hamilton Green can expect by us where this type of behaviour is concerned,” he said.
