LEADER of the Opposition David Granger, MP, has congratulated residents of the Upper Mazaruni District of the Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region (No. 7) for the successful hosting of their annual games which started on Sunday August 4th.
According to a statement from the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), Granger was invited by the management committee to bring greetings and witness the games which were held this year in Waramadong Village. He told the large crowd of mainly young people that the week-long games were well organised, well administered and well supported by the villages.
The PNCR said Granger praised the villages – Arau, Chinoewing, Imbaimadai, Jawalla, Kaikan, Kako, Kamarang, Paruima, Phillipi, Quebenang and Waramadong – which sent teams to the games this year. Each village erected its own pavilion under its own flag and colours in a stadium-like setting.
He also reportedly congratulated the teams which were uniformly attired and which displayed a high standard of skill in athletics, football, volleyball, swimming and other sports. Both boys and girls were included in the teams.
The PNCR leader presented trophies, footballs and sports gear to the organisers on behalf of his party. He said that the annual games were a model of inter-community cooperation which should be emulated by communities on the coastland.
