The GRA, in a statement, said the most recent mischief by the newspaper appears on the front page of the July 24, edition captioned: ‘A stolen bulldozer?’ The accompanying note claims that the bulldozer in the picture has been at the 1763 Monument for an extended period and that efforts to locate the owner has proven futile. It goes on to state that “assistance of the Guyana Revenue Authority has not yielded any clue.”
According to the GRA, it must be pointed out that the Commissioner-General never received any such query.
Additionally, the Authority said it is privy to the ownership of the pictured machinery and had
the Reporter taken the time to make contact with the relevant department of the GRA the
required information would have been provided.
The Agency is requesting that in future the Kaieteur News be thorough in its
investigations. “This would avoid future unnecessary publications and having to spend an
inordinate amount of time responding to these misleading and inaccurate articles,” the GRA chided.
