THE Government of Guyana will host the 2013 Caribbean Week of Activities (CWA) from October 4 to 12.
Themed ‘Linking the Caribbean for Regional Food and Nutrition Security and Rural Development,’ this year’s programme represents the twelfth edition of the region’s premier agricultural event. A press release from the Ministry of Agriculture said preparations are already moving apace for the staging at the Guyana International Conference Centre (GICC), Liliendaal.
The release said the local steering committee, comprising officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, other Government Ministries, CARICOM, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), met recently and decided on a number of planning issues.
The statement said it is envisaged, by Agriculture Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, that this year will see the transformation of the CWA into the Caribbean’s premiere technical meeting on agriculture.
It will be an event for the participation of Government Ministers, senior agriculture professionals, farmers and entrepreneurs.
Additional details on the CWA will be provided in time, the release said.
Inter-faith service
Meantime, an inter-faith service is planned for October 6 at the GICC where most of the CWA events will take place. be anchored.
However, the Ministry of Agriculture will be taking participants on field visits to agricultural sites of interest that will showcase a little of Guyana’s cultivation.
The Exhibition and Trade Show will be from October 9 to 11, piloted by the Guyana Marketing Corporation on behalf of the Ministry.
