A sixteen-year-old student of Queenstown Village on the Essequibo Coast is reported missing since June 24th.
According to the child’s mother, Mrs. Roxanne Venture, her daughter who is a student of Johanna Cecilia Secondary school told her that she was going to school on Monday June 24th to sign for some textbooks.
However, according to the grieving mother, she was at work and did not see her daughter leaving home but was told by neighbours that she left around 09:30 hrs with a bag.
The mother of three children said she was told by teachers of the school that her daughter never reported there on that day to sign for textbooks. The mother who broke down in tears while talking to the media said Shevon is her second child and herself and husband Gavin loved her very much because she is their only daughter.
According to the mother, her daughter called her once on a cell phone and told her she is in Linden. The mother said she has relatives in Linden but they do not know her daughter, neither does she know them.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Venture said she has been told that her daughter Shevon, who is just 16-years-old, is living with a man (name given) from Nabacalis Village on the East Coast of Demerara.
She said she also learnt that the man had taken her daughter to Buck Hall, Essequibo River, where Barama Company has a saw milling operation but they were sent away because of the girl’s age.
In the meantime, the mother is calling on the police and the Ministry of Human Services to look into the matter. However, it has not been ascertained whether she has made a formal report to either agency. The child recently wrote the CXC examinations and is awaiting results.
