Police awaiting DPP’s advice after arrests in Gajadhar robbery – Michel Outridge

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, yesterday, said that they are awaiting advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Shalimar Ali-Hack in relation to the robbery in the city on Monday, in which Victor Da Silva was shot and killed when gunmen opened fire on the vehicle he was travelling in.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police stated that two of three persons arrested remain in custody since the holding period of 72-hours expired for one of the trio, yesterday, and he was released.
Victor Da Silva was killed in the brazen daylight robbery at Water and Cowan Streets, Kingston, Georgetown on Monday, while in the company of his employer, gas station owner Cecil Gajadhar, who was also shot and injured when gunmen opened fire on the vehicle they were in and took away a bag containing $8M and escaped.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem performed, yesterday, on the body of Da Silva of Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, by Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, found that the cause of death was  multiple gunshot injuries.
Monday’s incident is the third occasion within recent times in which Gajadhar, 71, of Foulis, East Coast Demerara, was the victim of an armed robbery.

Police reported that at about 08:15 hrs July 8, 2013, businessman, Cecil Albert Gajadhar, and Victor Da Silva of Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, were in a motor vehicle on their way to a city bank, when two men in another motor vehicle blocked their path in the vicinity of Water and Cowan Streets, Kingston.
The two men exited the vehicle and began discharging rounds at Cecil Gajadhar, who was struck to his forehead, and Victor Da Silva, who was hit to his chest. The armed men took away $8M and escaped.
Gajadhar managed to drive the vehicle to Robb Street, from where he was taken to the GPHC for medical treatment. Da Silva succumbed to his injuries.
The businessman was at the wheel of his CRV when he observed that a grey Toyota Allion motorcar was following him but he did not pay heed to this until his path was blocked by several cars and he came under fire.

Gajadhar tried to escape but not before his employee was shot and killed and he was shot and injured.
