Crime Chief reports… Three still in custody after Monday robbery/murder

THREE persons are in custody pending investigations into the brazen daylight robbery at Water and Cowan Streets, Kingston, Georgetown, on Monday.

altVictor Da Silva was shot and killed and his employer, gas station owner, Cecil Gajadhar, injured when gunmen opened fire on them and took away the cash they had in a vehicle.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said, yesterday, that, since Monday, the trio were arrested and questioned by sleuths who are continuing the probe.
Meanwhile, a post- mortem performed by pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh, yesterday, on the body of Da Silva, of Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, found the cause of death to be multiple gunshot injuries.
Monday’s incident is the third within recent times in which Gajadhar, 71, of Foulis, East Coast Demerara, was the victim of armed robberies.alt
Police reported that in the latest, about 08:15 hrs on Monday, July 8, businessman Gajadhar and Da Silva were in a motor vehicle on their way to a city bank, when two men, in another, blocked their path in the vicinity of Water and Cowan Streets, Kingston.
The duo exited their vehicle and began discharging rounds at Gajadhar, who was struck on his forehead and Da Silva to his chest.
The armed men took away $8M and escaped but Gajadhar managed to drive to Robb Street, from where he was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) for medical treatment while Da Silva succumbed to his injury.
Gajadhar had been at the wheel of his CRV when he observed a grey ‘Toyota Allion’ motor car following him but did not pay much attention until his path was blocked by several cars and he came under fire.
He tried to flee but did not succeed before his employee, Da Silva was killed and he injured.
