MAGISTRATE Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus struck out 54 traffic cases, that were listed for ex-parte trials on Tuesday, after the respective police ranks who laid the charges did not attend the New Amsterdam Court in Berbice.
The defendants had been issued tickets for offences ranging from from speeding to leaving a motor vehicle in a dangerous position, which attracted fines of between $5,000 and $7,500, respectively.
After the names of the absent defendants and, subsequently, those of policemen Downer, Reynolds and Johnson, were called by the court orderly, the magistrate dismissed the cases.
However, the fines for 83 traffic tickets, issued for speeding and overloading, were imposed after Corporal Alli and Constable Crandon led evidence with respect to the offences.
The prosecutions for speed stemmed from various drivers exceeding the limit along the New Amsterdam, East Canje and Number Two Village roads, all in Berbice.
