Sarwan excited about leading Guyana Amazon Warriors … says tournament is good for youths

OVERLOOKED West Indies middle-order batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan last Saturday said he hopes the Limacol Caribbean Premier League (CPL) will develop into a long-term event, during a press conference held at Duke’s Lodge Hotel in Kingston.
And just yesterday, the former Guyana and West Indies skipper was confirmed as the captain of the Guyana Amazon

altWarriors, a team that is being coached by Roger Harper and includes such T20 stalwarts the calibre of Sunil Narine, Mohammed Hafeez, Martin Guptil and our very own Christopher Barnwell.
“It is a great honour to have been chosen to captain the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the first-ever Limacol Caribbean Premier League T20 tournament.  I have the opportunity to work with and lead some of the best players in the region and the world, and I am looking forward to using my years of experience to guide the Amazon Warriors to victory,” said the 33-year-old Sarwan.
Sarwan stated that the tournament will be an exciting one and it is a good opportunity for the younger players to showcase their talent.
“It’s similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and our players can gain knowledge from the overseas players. It is also a good chance for the youngsters to develop themselves,” added Sarwan, who thinks Guyana have a very good chance of winning the competition, since they have some exciting players in their ranks.
He said his goal is to assist the other players in the best possible way ever, while at the same time he tries to score heavily and offer support to his teammates.
“I think it’s exciting,” he opined. “Obviously, it’s an opportunity being provided for young players in the Caribbean. Of course we know the excitement that surrounds T20, so I think to have something like the Limacol CPL being played right here in the West Indies, is good for the sport,” added Sarwan.
The Amazon Warriors will open their quest for championship honours, against Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence on July 31, following the opening match between Barbados Tridents and St Lucia’s Zouks at the Kensington Oval the previous day.
