Systems testing at Demerara Harbour Bridge proves successful

THE newly-installed Gy$16.1M Programme Logic Control (PLC) System at the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) is now 99% operational after eight days of installation, training and configuration. This was demonstrated yesterday at 13:00hrs, at the scheduled opening of the DHB, where the system was fully tested and its operation was certified functional. DHB engineers on site witnessed a smooth operation in opening and closing of the bridge after ships and other vessels had passed through the bridge.
After the exercise, operators opined that this new system’s technological improvement would save a lot of time in scheduled opening and closing of the facility. Noting that the training received was hands-on and simple, they ventured that “all we need to do is to follow all instructions in opening and closing after the ships and vessels would have passed, and maintain serviceability of the equipment which is used on the facility.”
