REGIONAL Executive Officer (REO) of Region 4 (Demerara-Mahaica), Deolall Rooplall has indicated that the financial releases to commence capital work projects in the region will be given to the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) after evidence of the work contract is provided to the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, which in turn will be able to secure the money from the Ministry of Finance. He was at the time responding to statements made by Regional Chairman, Mr. Clement Corlette to the media last Tuesday, when he said that the council had not received its budgetary allocations to carry out its work programmes.
According to Rooplall, the ministry has implemented this measure in order to ensure that timely work is done.
He explained that after the projects would have gone through the tender process and were awarded, the ministry would have asked for proof, being the signed contracts, which would see the finances coming out in a partial manner on a monthly basis as the contract progresses.
He said that the Chairman would have been given copies of the contract which were already signed for reviewing and the situation with the financial releases was explained to him.
The REO said that works are moving apace in the region as multiple contracts have been signed for developmental works.
Additionally, more projects are to be signed within the next few weeks to ensure residents in the region are in a better living environment.
