LABOURER Rondell Edwards, of Lot 155 Cooper Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, was put on $75,000 bail yesterday after pleading not guilty to receiving stolen property.
Before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, he was accused of having, between May 30 and June 2, in the city, he received one electrical generator valued $150,000, property of Rudolph Richardson, knowing it to have been stolen. The defendant claimed he had loaned someone $28,000 and the person gave him the engine to keep until he was repaid.
Edwards said, further, that after his mother took ill he had no alternative but to pawn the security left with him for $50,000 to take her to a doctor.
He said he was at his workplace when two policemen arrested him.
Requesting pre-trial freedom, he said his reputed wife is suffering from leukemia and has no one else to take care of her.
Police Corporal Renetta Bentham, prosecuting, did not object to the application prior to the grant and the case will be called, again, on June 25.
