COUNCILLOR of the Region 2 Regional Democratic Council (RDC) and farmers representative in the Lower Pomeroon River, Mrs. Vilma Da Silva has disclosed that she has struck a deal with a Trinidad company to supply the company with 50,000 liters of coconut water per month.
Speaking last week Tuesday at the statutory meeting of the RDC, Mrs. Da Silva, who is a very active farmer representative in the Pomeroon area, said the new market will help coconut farmers in the Pomeroon in terms of improving their livelihood and creating more employment.
Da Silva, who is also a large scale farmer of coconuts and other crops, said the new market will also encourage coconut farmers to put more effort into their farms in terms of drainage and empoldering.
Meanwhile, the farmers representative in the Lower Pomeroon is calling on the government to install two floodlights at the mouth of the Pomeroon River in order to guide captains of ships while navigating the channel to the river mouth at night. Mrs Da Silva said the river mouth is not easy to find especially at night.
