FORMER Mayor of the Town of Anna Regina, Mrs. Etwaria Kumar has passed away.

Reports said the first mayor of Anna Regina, Mrs Kumar died at her residence at Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast around 03:00hrs last Friday morning after complaining of a sharp pain in her chest.
Mrs Kumar served as mayor from August 1, 1990 when Anna Regina became a town. She served with distinction as the first mayor until 1993. She also worked as a teacher and was the headmistress of the Anna Regina Multilateral School for several years.
At the time of her death she was employed with the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) at the Anna Regina office.
At the start of the planning meeting on Monday for Anna Regina Town Day, members of the IMC of the Anna Regina Town Council, business persons and other stakeholders observed a one-minute silence for the late mayor of the town.
