Cattle owners urged to exercise proper supervision of animals – total of 456 animals impounded in May

MINISTRY of Home Affairs Stray Catching Units operating in Berbice, Georgetown, East Coast Demerara and West Coast Demerara during the month of May impounded a total of 456 animals.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) in a release on Friday appealed to cattle owners to exercise proper supervision of their animals, especially during this rainy season when the animals seek to obtain high ground to graze and rest in the absence of such supervision.
In the absence of proper supervision, the Stray Catching Units will readily respond to requests to remove animals found grazing on private and public properties.
MOHA noted that anyone who releases or attempts to release any stray animal taken for the purpose of being impounded under the authority of the Pound Act, Section 8 (a) of Chapter 71:04, shall be liable to a fine of not less than $ 10,000 and not more $ 20,000.
