PYARG training newly certified unit leaders this weekend

BEGINNING today, the President’s Youth Award: Republic of Guyana (PYARG) will, over the next three days, be conducting field craft sessions for the newly certified unit leaders.
For the duration, the unit leaders and others preparing for the Caribbean Award Scheme Council (CASC), scheduled for Barbados from August 1 to 18, are expected to be at Camp Madewini, the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport facility where the exercise will be conducted. PYARG Training Officer Idi Wilson told the Guyana Chronicle that this weekend training is aimed, specifically, at implementing the methods of expedition preparedness, because the award programme will be starting expeditions in its three categories.
He said 10 of those who will be representing Guyana at the CASC will also be trained.
The others being drawn from the ten Administrative Regions and had successfully completed their unit leaders’ course will receive first hand camp craft coursing.
That session is expected to be coordinated by leaders of the PYARG and members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 31 Special Forces Squadron, who have, in past years, provided support and trained for the expedition exercises.
Some of the areas to be covered this weekend are floatation, sack packing, first aid, camp craft, map reading, navigation and choice of suitable locations for camping sites.
PYARG offers three types of medals – bronze, silver and gold and each category requires skills content, physical education, expedition and community services.
