PREVIOUSLY charged with drug trafficking, Gordon Bruce recorded his first conviction, last Monday, when he was sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $10,000. Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo imposed the penalties on him after finding him guilty of being in possession of seven and a half grammes cocaine at his St. John Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice home.
The magistrate said there was no doubt in her mind that the convict was the lone occupant of the house when Police carried out a raid there last January 29.
Police Sergeant Phillip Sherriff, prosecuting, had called two witnesses who testified that Bruce was charged with the offence on several occasions, including two weeks before the current charge was instituted.
On January 29, at 09:45hrs, Cadet Officer Singh and a party of policemen went to Bruce’s home and, on their arrival, he was seen throwing a white parcel to the ground and moving away from it within the house.
Constable Fredrick took possession of the parcel which, when opened, contained a whitish substance, that subsequent tests confirmed to be cocaine, the Court was told.
