Jailed for cocaine utensil, to face trafficking trial

LESTER Singh (no address given) appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell Thursday, charged with two offences.   The 54-year-old defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that, on Tuesday, June 11, at Stabroek Market, he had five and a half grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
But he admitted that, the same day and place, he had possession of a utensil used in connection with cocaine.
Singh told the Court that an officer searched and found the alleged cocaine around the market area, assaulted and accused him of having it.
The defendant, who was previously convicted of simple larceny, was sentenced to one year imprisonment and fined $3,000 for having the utensil.
For the trafficking offence, he will make his next Court appearance on June 17.
