Man charged with inciting Benschop to commit murder granted bail

LOCHAN (only name given), of Lot 4 Greenwich Park, East Bank Essequibo, made his second appearance before Magistrate Fabayo Azore Friday, on a charge of inciting Mark Benschop to commit murder.

Particulars of the indictable offence said it was committed on Monday, May 13.
It is alleged that the accused visited Benschop’s office and told him he would like to get two hit men to kill two named persons and would pay them $100,000 each.
Police Corporal Renetta Bentham, prosecuting, told the court, she would have to seek advice from the Director of the Public Prosecutor (DPP) before proceeding further.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Dexter Todd, requesting pre-trial freedom for Lochan, said his health has been deteriorating in prison because of his age and disabilities.
The lawyer added that the prisoner has been blind for more than 20 years and his wife has been taking care of him all this time as he trusts only her to do so.
Benschop said, as a result of the sluggishness of the police, he would not allow Lochan to punish in prison anymore and is willing to forgive and let him go ahead with his life.
The virtual complainant apologised to Lochan’s family members for the embarrassment caused and indicated he will not be testifying against the accused.
After the magistrate announced that bail will be granted to Lochan, in the sum of $150,000, his family members cried and hugged him as they all departed the courtroom.
Lochan is to return to court on Monday, June 10.
