Surendra Engineering awarded drainage pumps contract in competitive bidding

CHIEF Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA), Mr. Lionel Wordsworth says Surendra Engineering was awarded a drainage pumps contract through competitive bidding.

altThe CEO was refuting the report in yesterday’s Kaieteur News which claimed that an Indian company, Surendra Engineering Corporation Limited, was awarded a US$4M contract for drainage pumps but never built any.
In a telephone interview with the Guyana Chronicle yesterday, Wordsworth stated that Surendra Engineering was awarded the contract in question through a competitive bidding process, which was approved by the National Tender Board.
He emphasised that the Indian company was not contracted to build the pumps, but rather to supply, whether fabricated or procured from another company, a total of 14 drainage pumps, specifically six mobile pumps and eight fixed-side pumps.
According to Wordsworth, Surendra Engineering has already begun to supply these pumps and the six mobile pumps are already in Guyana.
He further related that the eight fixed-side pumps were fabricated in India and were factory-tested by local engineers.
Moreover, in a recent interview with this newspaper, Agriculture Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy had stated that the eight fixed side drainage pumps had performed to capacity during the factory-testing exercise.
He also indicated that the Government of Guyana is requesting an onsite demonstration in order to see how they would perform in “real conditions”.
The minister said that most of the components for the pumps have already been delivered and the NDIA is working with the Indian company to ensure that the remaining components are delivered in a timely manner.
