Collaborative donation furnishes upgraded Convalescent Home laundry room

THE Rotary Club of Georgetown, in collaboration with other donors, Thursday , donated five washers and dryers to the Guyana Red Cross Society Children’s Convalescent Home, in Kingston, Georgetown.

The donation was for the newly renovated laundry room, which was in dire need of upgraded facilities.
Through the Georgetown Rotary, Rotarians from three clubs in Brockville, Canada; 1000 Islands and Hawkesbury, as well as the local Republic Bank and Sterling Products Limited, the facility now has what will be of great assistance to the care givers and the children.
Secretary General of Guyana Red Cross Society, Mrs. Dorothy Fraser, who received the gifts, said it is a joy to have them as they will go a long way in helping the place to function to its capacity.
President of the Rotary, Mr. Khalil Alli said his club will continue to support the hospice in any way it can, as it is always a joy to bring smiles to children’s faces.
More than 20 years ago, the Georgetown Rotary Club was very instrumental in assisting the Guyana Red Cross in building a new and greatly improved home for infants and young children who needed it to convalesce when their parents or family were in difficult circumstances.
The dormitory now houses 45 children between the ages of six months and six 6 years, who go there to avoid very distressing situations.
Some of them are rescued from abuse and others seek accommodation simply because their families can no longer care for them. Occasionally, others are adopted.
