SPRING tides are now in effect , until May 30, with the highest of these tides expected on Sunday, May 26, at height 3.21 meters. Hence during the periods of spring tides, sea conditions are likely to remain hazardous. All marine interests are advised to continue to exercise extreme caution as models are suggesting rough and high seas in Guyana’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
Further, please note that high tides coupled with current adverse weather condition may not support gravity drainage, hence flooding is likely in flood prone and low lying areas. Wave actions may also have adverse effects on vulnerable sea defences.
Guyanese citizens, especially those residing along coastal and low lying areas, are asked to be on the alert for above normal sea conditions during this period.
The Hydromet Service will continue to monitor weather systems which will affect sea conditions and issue updates.
