Truck driver glad he had enough cash to please gunman …during holdup at Enmore

A DELIVERY truck with three workers selling snacks and other products distributed by Ainlim was doing a routine delivery at Enmore, East Coast Demerara Monday when a lone gunman struck.

altA source close to the company related that the truck which had on board its driver Maurice Braithwaite and two porters, Zenrick Osborne and Beelall Jahbar, had only been in Enmore for about 30 minutes.
It was reported that the gunman who was unmasked demanded all the cash from the truck driver who promptly complied.
According to company policy at no time should an employee on the truck be carrying more than $5,500 on his or her person, but yesterday the driver had far in excess of that amount after doing business at two shops earlier in the area.
This newspaper was informed that the driver of the truck told investigators that while he admitted that he breached the SOP of the company, he is happy that he had more money on his person since he felt that if the gunman only got $5,500 or less, he might have thought he was being duped and may have opened fire out of frustration.
The newspaper was told that the man also related to the detectives that the money which he had on his person was the cash which he had earlier collected from the two previous shops where he sold goods.
In recalling the ordeal to this newspaper the truck driver said that he believes that the person who robbed them had been trailing the delivery truck for a while before striking. He told this publication that the man who was unmasked only had a hat pulled down in his face.
