VICE-CHAIRMAN of Region 2 (Pomeroon/ Supenaam), Mr. Vishnu Samaroo has assured A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Member of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Mr. Wazir Latiff that speeding, overloading and playing of loud music in mini buses on the Essequibo Coast will be discussed with the police.
The former said he would speak with the Commander in the Division about the problems that are getting out of control.
The APNU Councillor said minibus drivers are committing those breaches of the law on the two-lane roadway, especially in the morning and afternoon, when their vehicles are filled with secondary school students.
Speaking about stray animals on the public road, streets and access dams, Latiff said they are roaming freely day and night and several accidents have been caused by them over the past months.
Responding, Samaroo said the Anna Regina Town Council and the five Neighbourhod Democratic Councils (NDCs) along the coast have tried to bring the situation under control by employing stray catchers but that did not work well.
He said the Regional Administration wrote the Ministry of Home Affairs asking for help to clear the roadways of strays but will, however, continue to work towards having them and other public places free of such animals and the issue would be raised with the police, again.
