GWI team to visit Orealla, Siparuta towards improvement

A GUYANA Water Inc. (GWI) team will be visiting the Corentyne River, Berbice villages of Orealla and Siparuta, in the next few days, to examine the potable supply network.

The visit is a result of a request by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, through the Toshaos of the respective villages and in both villages, the water supply would be looked at, with a view to later expansion and quality improvement recommended by GWI.
Senior Councillor of Siparuta, Hilary Wong and Toshao of Orealla, Floyd Edwards told the Guyana Chronicle about the water distribution system in the two villages.
At Orealla, 95 percent of residents, each get their potable water supply from standpipes in their yards, Edwards said, noting that it has been a significant achievement of his Council.
In Siparuta, Wong indicated that the Village Council secured water lines from Gafoor’s and the installation, presently being done by villagers, should conclude by the end of this month.
He said the Council is also now working on a stelling project for the mooring of boats and the proper off-loading of goods and services taken there.
