POLICE yesterday arrested a man at Ogle International Airport, East Coast Demerara, after they found a quantity of cannabis sativa (marijuana) in his possession, while he was a passenger bound for an interior flight.
At about 08:35 hrs on April 26, 2013, police narcotics ranks at the Ogle Airport conducted a search on a man bound for Matthew’s Ridge, Region 1 (Barima/Waini) and found 490 grams of cannabis sativa in his possession.
He is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Back in January, a man was arrested after ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch at Ogle Airport unearthed a quantity of marijuana he had concealed in a haversack he was carrying.
The Police Narcotics Branch at Ogle Airport had conducted a search on his baggage as he was booked on a flight to Imbaimadai, Mazaruni. A total of 547 grams of marijuana was found concealed in a haversack that he had in his possession.
He was subsequently charged and placed before the court.
Meanwhile, for this month alone police conducted several drug eradication exercises in which several fields of marijuana plants, seeds, nurseries and camps were destroyed.
In addition, they continue to monitor passengers at all ports of entry, including airports and wharves, as well as checkpoints across the country.
