Health Ministry to conduct anti-malaria training seminars

THE Vector Control Department in the Ministry of Health will, over the coming weeks, conduct training in Regions 1 (Barima/Waini), 7 (Cuyuni/Mazaruni), 8 (Potaro/Siparuni) and 9(Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo).

According to the Head of Department, Dr. Reyad Rahaman the personnel to be trained will aid their communities in the fight against malaria.
He said persons from Regions 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) and 10 (Upper Demerara/Upper Berbice) will also benefit in some form.
Rahaman said the seminars would better equip the trainees from those regions to detect malaria and help patients stay with their treatments.
In the past few months, outbreaks of malaria have been prevalent in the targeted regions, causing a scare in the health sector. However, it was quickly brought under control with the dispatch of a medical team to the affected areas, a release said.
The ministry said, too, that it has been distributing treated bed nets to various communities so as to control cases of the disease.
The release said malaria has been on the increase over the past few months and became a priority for the Health Ministry to do all that is necessary to reduce the number of cases.
