City Hall Public Relations Officer, Mr. Royston King has said that experts from Miami, Florida, arrived yesterday to assess the architecture of City Hall and advise on what must be done to restore the building to its former glory.

altHe told this publication, however, that the start of the physical works has to await the outcome of the parliamentary budget debates.
City Hall is a nineteenth-century Gothic Revival building located on the corner of Regent Street and Avenue of the Republic in Georgetown.
The building was designed by architect Reverend Ignatius Scoles in 1887, and was completed in June 1889. The building houses the offices of the Mayor, the City Council, and the City Engineer.
City Hall was once described as “a most picturesque structure” and “the most handsome building in Georgetown”, as well as “one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in the Caribbean.”
In a Mayor and City Council meeting last March, Mayor Hamilton Green explained that a plan is essential in order to ensure the success of restoring the city to its glory.
He underscored that the restoration of Georgetown will benefit all Guyanese and will secure a legacy of a clean, healthy and good city for future generations.
The mayor also appealed to the media to help with the City Restoration Project by being upbeat and focusing on the areas that would make it successful.
A City Restoration motion was tabled in Parliament in March by APNU’s Member of Parliament Volda Lawrence and received unanimous support from the main opposition party and the government.
